News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Pedro Acosta’s rookie MotoGP season was filled with highs and lows, earning him a factory KTM seat but also valuable lessons. The young Spanish rider reflects on his biggest mistakes—especially his dramatic crashes in Japan—and outlines his plan for a more consistent and controlled 2025 season.
Pedro Acosta had an impressive rookie MotoGP season—so impressive that he earned a spot on KTM’s factory team. But like any rookie, he faced some challenges and learned valuable lessons from them.
One of the most dramatic weekends of his season was the Japanese Grand Prix, where he experienced both highs and lows. Acosta was leading the Sprint race when he crashed out. Then, during the main race, he was chasing Francesco Bagnaia for the lead when he lost the front and crashed again.
Looking back, Acosta knows what he wants to improve:
“The biggest mistake I don’t want to repeat in 2025 is both crashes in Japan,” he admitted at KTM’s recent MotoGP team launch.
He felt fully prepared for that race, but in the end, experience played a big role in how things unfolded.
Working on Qualifying and Race Management
This winter, Acosta has been focusing on two key areas: qualifying performance and race management.
“I don’t expect too much from these tests, but I worked a lot this winter on the things I was missing—qualifying and how I manage certain parts of the race,” he said.
One of the biggest takeaways from last season is that he may have pushed too hard, too fast.
“Maybe last year, I wanted too much too soon. I made a lot of mistakes—not just in races, but during the whole weekend. I’d crash two or three times on a Friday, which made it hard to build a strong weekend.”
For 2025, his goal is to stay more consistent and controlled, allowing him to get the best out of himself and his KTM bike. With a year of experience under his belt, Acosta is determined to make smarter choices on track and fight for even better results.
