The summer break is nearly over, which means that the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix is right behind the corner. With the way this year’s racing calendar is scheduled the weekend in Netherlands is the destination for most teams to introduce new upgrades. Let’s take a look what upgrade packages are the top teams planning to bring to Zandvoort.

Red Bull

The first half of the season didn’t really turn out as the Austrian team expected. They started dominantly in Bahrain as fans were predicting way ahead. However, as the season has progressed, the advantage that the RB20 had over its rivals is now pretty much gone, not only McLaren but even Mercedes and Ferrari are now breathing on the back of last year’s Constructor’s Champions neck.

This year Red Bull’s development during the season has been pretty bad so far, with the team not being able to find the right setup and gain from any of their upgrade packages, that they have introduced this season. Reportedly, the team has no room in their budget to address the issues with RB20 because Sergio Perez’s crashes this year has cost the team way more than they were expecting.

To Zandvoort, the team is set to make revisions to the underfloor in search of a better load distribution, which should help to generate more downforce. More upgrades should come around the Austin GP with a revised front wing.

Overall the RB20 is definitely not the fastest car on the grid at the moment, but the team is staying hopeful and fully focused on the Constructor’s Championship battle.

McLaren

The team from Woking seems to be the strongest candidate for the Constructor’s Championship trophy at this point as they were able to beat Red Bull in so many aspects throughout most of the season.

The last but huge upgrade McLaren has introduced was in Miami but reportedly they have more upgrades lined up for the next half of the season. The team principal, Andrea Stella, has revealed that the magnitude of these upgrades should be similar to Miami. The team is also planning to break this package into two parts, with the first one arriving in Zandvoort and the second one probably in Singapore.

Mercedes

The beginning of the season wasn’t as good as Mercedes was hoping, however, they have made huge progress throughout the season, which was especially visible in the last few races. Mercedes drivers got to stand on the top spot 3 times in the last 4 races.

Mercedes won’t bring any new upgrades to Zandvoort, except the new-old upgrade first introduced in Belgium right before the summer break. The team brought a new underfloor to Spa, which didn’t work as the team expected and brought back the not favorite bouncing. However, they are still planning to bring that underfloor to Holland, only with a few technical adjustments that should help to get rid of the bouncing. The other new upgrades should be introduced around the Austin Grand Prix later this year.

Ferrari

The season started very strong for the team from Maranello and it looked like they would be challenging for podiums consistently. However, after the Monaco Grand Prix, where Charles Leclerc secured his first home win, everything went downhill. The Italian team brought an upgraded underfloor to Spain, which triggered the porpoising of the SF24 in high-speed corners.

In Zandvoort, the team will introduce a new front wing, that should help with the airflow towards the Venturi tunnels and around the front tires. The next upgrade should be a few certain bits surrounding the car’s floor edge, these should help with improving the seal for further upgrades. Lastly, Ferrari will make revisions to the SF24’s internal components of the rear suspension. That should help the car to handle more downforce. The Italian team should introduce more upgrades, including a new underfloor and revised side pods, which should come as we get closer to the Singapore Grand Prix.

The second half of the 2024 season should be full of exciting moments with the highlight of the Contructor's Championship battle. The drivers and team members had the chance to recharge during the month-long summer break and now everyone is ready to get back to work.
