I’m James Whitaker, a British sports journalist focused on Formula 1 and MotoGP. I share the latest news and easy-to-understand analysis from the motorsport worldFirst F1 cars rolled out of the factory to make an on-track debut, while MotoGP teams were in Buriram for second pre-season test. Let’s recap the key events from the second week of February.
Marc Marquez dominated the Buriram test, setting the fastest time on both days and being the only rider to break into the 1:28s on Day 2 with a 1:28.588 lap. His younger brother, Alex Marquez, was also impressive, finishing second on both days, while Franco Morbidelli completed a strong showing for Ducati.
Ducati confirmed its 2025 bike setup, deciding to upgrade only the electronics and suspension, while keeping the engine, chassis, and aerodynamics unchanged until 2026. Francesco Bagnaia finished eighth on Day 1 before improving to fifth on Day 2.
Pedro Acosta continued to impress for KTM, finishing fifth on Day 1 and improving to fourth on Day 2. His Sprint simulation was strong, and he outperformed his teammate, Brad Binder. Maverick Viñales showed progress at Red Bull KTM Tech3, breaking into the top ten on Day 2, while Enea Bastianini struggled.
Aprilia had a strong test, with Marco Bezzecchi as their standout rider. He finished fourth on Day 1 and improved to third on Day 2, showing great progress. Lorenzo Savadori contributed to testing, and Raul Fernandez made steady improvements after his recent injury.
Honda had one of its best tests in a while, with Joan Mir finishing 11th on Day 1 before improving to sixth on Day 2. Luca Marini and Johann Zarco set fast times on Day 1 but dropped down the order on Day 2. Rookie Somkiat Chantra continued gaining experience ahead of his home Grand Prix.
Yamaha found Buriram more difficult than Sepang. Fabio Quartararo was their best rider, finishing eighth on Day 2, while Jack Miller was tenth. Alex Rins and Miguel Oliveira struggled in 17th and 18th. Unlike Honda, Yamaha hadn’t tested at Buriram before, which may have slowed their progress.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will remain on the MotoGP calendar until 2031. A fan favourite for decades, the track is known for its great racing and atmosphere, making it a perfect fit for the championship.
Having been part of MotoGP since 1992, the circuit is one of the sport’s most iconic venues. It has hosted 34 Grands Prix and is the third longest-running track on the calendar.
McLaren’s new MCL39 made its first on-track appearance at Silverstone with a camo livery that blended the team’s signature papaya and black colours. The full livery will be revealed at the F1 75 event next week.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were the first to drive the car, taking turns at the British Grand Prix circuit to compare it to last year’s MCL38. That car had a strong season, especially after its Miami Grand Prix upgrades, eventually making McLaren the fastest team on the grid and securing their first Constructors’ Championship since 1998, can they do it again in 2025?

Williams unveiled their new FW47 at Silverstone, with newly signed Carlos Sainz making its track debut with two short laps just after 10:00 am local time. The car featured a special one-off livery, with the full 2025 design set to be revealed at the F1 75 Live event in London on February 18.
After finishing ninth in last year’s championship, Williams is aiming for better results this season. While team principal James Vowles admitted their main focus is on 2026, they are still hoping for progress with their strong driver lineup of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz.

Haas completed its first track run of the season behind closed doors, but a leaked photo of the VF-25 has surfaced on social media. The car looks very similar to last year’s VF-24, which is expected as teams are sticking to their current designs ahead of the major 2026 regulation changes. Unlike some rivals, Haas has opted for an evolutionary approach rather than a radical redesign.
The biggest talking point from the leaked image is the livery, which features more white than last year. However, without an official statement from Haas, it’s unclear whether this is the final design or just a temporary test version until the F1 75 Live event in London next week.
