Ferrari is facing a tricky decision ahead of this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix. The team is considering whether to bring a new floor upgrade to the SF-25 earlier than planned.
This new version was originally supposed to be introduced at the Miami Grand Prix, but according to RacingNews365 and Gazzetta dello Sport, it has already been built and is ready to use in Bahrain.
There are different opinions within the team. The aerodynamics department, led by Diego Tondi, believes that the new floor could help improve the car’s performance. They think it might give the SF-25 some extra speed, which could be important in helping the team catch up with rivals like Red Bull and McLaren.
However, technical director Loic Serra and team principal Fred Vasseur are more cautious. They believe that the car’s balance is still too unpredictable, and that this issue needs to be solved before any new parts are added.
To make the right choice, Ferrari is studying data from the Japanese Grand Prix. In that race, Charles Leclerc finished 16 seconds behind Max Verstappen and the team is trying to understand whether the car was limited by its current aerodynamic design or by its inconsistent handling. If the problem is only with the aerodynamics, then the new floor could help. But if the balance is the bigger issue, adding a new part now could make things worse.
Bahrain will be an important weekend, especially because pre-season testing also took place at this circuit. This gives teams a rare chance to compare test data with current performance.
Ferrari has yet to finish on the podium this season, while teams like McLaren and Mercedes have shown stronger pace. So far, the only highlight for the Scuderia has been Lewis Hamilton’s sprint race victory in China. With pressure building, the team is expected to reach a decision on the upgrade by Thursday.
