Formula 1 f12025season f1testing summaries

The 2025 Formula 1 pre-season testing has come to an end after three busy days on track, with teams putting their new cars through their paces. While testing times don’t always tell the full story, they still give an idea of how teams are shaping up before the first race of the season. Find the full recap below!

Williams were the surprise stars of the test, with Carlos Sainz setting the fastest time of 1m29.348s on Day 2. His teammate Alex Albon also put in a strong lap of 1m29.650s, though he used softer tyres than most other drivers. Williams completed 395 laps in total, which was a solid effort, but they weren’t among the most active teams.

Ferrari were very close behind, with Lewis Hamilton just 0.031s slower than Sainz and Charles Leclerc only 0.052s further back. Both set their best laps on Day 2, and the team covered 382 laps in total. Leclerc managed an impressive 220 laps, while Hamilton’s total was on the lower side at 162. Overall, Ferrari showed good speed, but they didn’t focus as much on long runs as some other teams.

Mercedes had a very productive test, completing the most laps of any team with 458. George Russell was fourth fastest overall with a 1m29.545s lap on Day 3, and young Kimi Antonelli impressed with a best time of 1m29.784s. Their high mileage suggests they were working on reliability and race pace rather than chasing fast times.

Red Bull's test was full of ups and downs. Max Verstappen was fifth fastest with a 1m29.566s, but the team only completed 304 laps, the least of any team as they suffered a few issues. Verstappen's new teammate, Liam Lawson, was 11th fastest and completed 149 laps.

McLaren showed decent pace, with Oscar Piastri setting their best time at 1m29.940s, which placed him eighth overall. Lando Norris struggled to match his teammate and was only 17th fastest, however that doesn't really mean anything. In terms of mileage, they completed 381 laps, which was slightly behind Ferrari and Williams.

Alpine had a solid test, completely different to last year's one, with Pierre Gasly putting in a best lap of 1m30.040s, making him ninth fastest. Jack Doohan also performed well with the fastest lap of 1:30.368. The team completed 405 laps in total.

Aston Martin had a more difficult test, with Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso only managing times of 1m30.229s and 1m30.700s. They also completed just 306 laps, which was on the lower side, however Stroll wasn't feeling very well on the last day, which might've contributed to that.

Red Bull's sister team, Racing Bulls, had a strong showing, completing 454 laps—the third highest of any team. Yuki Tsunoda set their best lap with a 1m30.497s, while rookie Isack Hadjar was slightly behind on a 1m30.675s. Their strong mileage suggests the team was focusing on long runs and consistency.

Haas had a very productive test, completing 457 laps—the second most of any team. Esteban Ocon set their best time of 1m30.728s and also covered the most distance of any driver with 260 laps, showing he put in plenty of long runs. Rookie Ollie Bearman, making his F1 testing debut, focused on learning rather than outright pace, with a best lap of 1m32.361s.

Sauber also had more of a quiet test, with Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg setting best laps of 1m31.057s and 1m31.457s. Their total mileage of 354 laps was one of the lower figures.
