The official layout of the Madrid City circuit has been revealed in advance of its debut on the Formula 1 calendar in 2026.
The Madring circuit in Madrid is set to host the Spanish Grand Prix starting in 2026, possibly replacing the current venue in Barcelona after one shared year on the calendar.
The new track will be 5.4 km long with 22 corners and will be run over 57 laps. It is a hybrid layout, part street circuit and part permanent track, similar in style to the Miami Grand Prix.
The start and finish straight is 589 metres long and 15 metres wide, giving some space for overtaking. Drivers will slow from 320 km/h to 100 km/h into Turn 1, making it one of the key overtaking spots. Turns 5 and 6, a tight chicane under a motorway, will be another main passing zone, especially since it comes just after the fastest part of the circuit, where cars could reach up to 340 km/h.
The rest of the circuit narrows to 12 metres wide, making overtaking very difficult. Some corners are already named. Turn 3 is called Hortaleza, named after the nearby neighborhood, and Turn 12 is La Monumental, a dramatic 24 percent banked right-hander inspired by the Las Ventas bullring and Zandvoort’s final corner. That section alone is 500 metres long and taken at around 300 km/h.
The layout continues through a mix of city roads and a new section at the Valdebebas festival grounds, formerly used for concerts. There is an 8 percent uphill climb called Subida de las Carcavas, and Turn 8, El Bunker, is placed near a historic Spanish Civil War site.
Another fast section called Las Enlazadas de Valdebebas flows around Real Madrid’s training complex before leading into more technical corners near the IFEMA fairgrounds, where the paddock and hospitality areas will be based.
Construction of the circuit is expected to begin soon with the first race scheduled for September 2026. The unveiling event was attended by regional politicians, sports figures, and F1 driver Carlos Sainz, who was named the official ambassador for the new Madring F1 project.
