The FIA has confirmed revisions to the Albert Park Circuit for 2025 following incidents in last season’s race.

Ahead of the 2025 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, several changes have been made to the Albert Park Circuit, particularly at Turns 6 and 7.

These updates come in response to incidents during the 2024 race weekend, particularly George Russell’s big accident on the final lap when his car bounced off the barrier and ended up back on the track and Alex Albon’s heavy shunt in practice.

After these incidents, the FIA and the Australian GP organisers decided to make improvements to improve safety while keeping the racing exciting.

One of the biggest changes is to the barrier on the exit of Turn 6, which has been moved and angled differently. The goal is to reduce the risk of cars bouncing back onto the track after a crash, as happened to Russell in 2024.

Another important update is the modification of the kerbs at Turns 6 and 7. Previously, these corners had a two-step kerb design that could unsettle cars. Now, a single, lower kerb has been installed to provide a smoother surface and help drivers maintain better control.

The gravel trap at Turn 6 has also been extended right up to the kerb. This means that if a driver runs wide, there is more space to slow the car down before reaching the barrier.

These changes were made based on feedback from the FIA’s safety experts, as well as input from drivers and teams. The goal is to make the corner safer while keeping it fast and challenging.

Drivers had already voiced concerns before these changes were confirmed. Russell himself had said that Turn 6 was one of the best corners on the track but admitted that the way barriers were placed could be dangerous. With these improvements, the 2025 race should offer better safety for the drivers while keeping the action exciting for fans.
