Mercedes is set to supply power units and gearboxes to Alpine, starting in 2026, following the end of Renault engine programme.
Last month, Alpine announced that they will end their works engine programme at Viry-Châtillon by the end of the 2025 season as part of their ‘Hypertech’ transformation project.
In relation to that, the team had already been in talks with other manufacturers about a customer engine deal, with Mercedes seeming as the top choice to supply them.
Now, Alpine has officially confirmed that Mercedes will actually be the one to provide both power units and gearboxes from 2026 in a multi-year deal.
Although the deal covers gearboxes from 2026, Alpine is planning to build its own gearboxes at their Enstone factory starting in 2027.
The decision to end the Renault engine programme comes after several years of struggling performance under the current F1 regulations, which began in 2014. Renault engines have been used by multiple teams, including Red Bull and McLaren, but since 2021, they’ve only been used by Alpine.
With new engine rules coming in 2026, focusing on sustainable fuels and battery technology, Alpine has decided to partner with Mercedes, meaning the Renault engine will no longer be used on the grid.

A short statement from the team read as follows:
“Alpine and Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains, and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix have entered into power unit and gearbox agreements from the start of the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
“The multi-year agreement will see Mercedes-Benz supply Alpine with power units for the duration of the new regulation era, from 2026 until at least 2030.
“Alongside the power unit, Alpine will also be supplied with Mercedes gearboxes from the 2026 season.”
For the 2025 season, Alpine will continue using Renault engines and aim to achieve similar results with their drivers, Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan, as they did recently in Brazil.
