News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Pedro Acosta’s MotoGP season with KTM isn’t going as planned. While Ducati dominates, KTM falls behind, leaving Acosta frustrated. Will he push through the challenges or consider a move to a stronger team?
So far, it can be said that this season is all about Ducati. The Italian manufacturer has dominated every single race, taking all four podiums in both Sprint and Grand Prix races. Meanwhile, other manufacturers, like KTM, are struggling to catch up.
At the Argentinian Grand Prix, Pedro Acosta didn’t hold back his disappointment. The factory KTM rider expected much better results. Instead, he finished ninth in the Sprint and eighth in the main race. This performance continued in Thailand, making it clear that KTM is falling behind. Acosta even said that instead of improving over the winter, KTM has actually gotten worse.
With Ducati far ahead, many riders would look at their bikes and wish for some of its technology. But in Acosta’s case, the biggest advantage isn’t just the technology—it’s also a person. He personally believes that Gigi Dall’Igna is behind Ducati’s success, and he wishes KTM had someone like him.
“Well, it's clear that Gigi [Dall'Igna] is one step ahead of the others,” Acosta told Spanish media outlet AS. “When you invent something, you're always ahead. Modern MotoGP is basically a copy-paste of what one brand does first, and Ducati has led the way.”
Acosta pointed out how Dall’Igna was responsible for many of the innovations now used by all teams, such as ride height devices and aerodynamic wings. “Nobody had wings at first, and then suddenly every bike had them. Ducati has been leading the charge. What would I like? I wish I could ride a Ducati to really compare.”
Acosta’s comments only fuel speculation that he might leave KTM and join Ducati if the team doesn’t improve. Some rumors even suggest that he could join Ducati’s satellite team, Pertamina Enduro VR46. However, the team’s boss, Pablo Nieto, has already dismissed those claims.
For now, Acosta remains with KTM, but if the results don’t turn around, he might be looking for a new team.
