News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Pedro Acosta, MotoGP’s hottest young talent, has manufacturers like Ducati vying for his signature. As KTM faces financial turmoil, the 20-year-old star’s future hangs in the balance, making him the most talked-about rider in the paddock.
Pedro Acosta has become a sensational rookie in MotoGP, catching the attention of manufacturers like Ducati, who are eager to secure him for their team. The young star made waves in his debut season, earning a promotion to KTM’s factory team. However, uncertainty looms over his future as KTM faces significant financial challenges.
KTM’s Financial Problems
KTM recently entered self-administration due to debts amounting to approximately €1.8 billion. Despite reassurances from the company that their MotoGP racing projects remain unaffected, this financial turbulence has raised concerns about their long-term stability. Renewed interest from potential investors has brought a glimmer of hope to the situation, but doubts persist.
Acosta’s manager, Albert Valera, spoke openly to Motorsport about the challenges Acosta now faces.
“For 2025, at the moment, everything remains the same unless the situation worsens and we are informed by KTM,” Valera explained. “The message is that they are still committed to the world championship and rely on the MotoGP project to strengthen their market presence.”
Ducati and Rivals Show Interest
Amid KTM’s uncertainty, rival manufacturers, including Ducati, are showing keen interest in Acosta. Valera revealed that the young star is on the radar of many teams.
“I talk to many factories constantly because we have good relationships and daily communication,” he said. “Every factory has reached out to check on Pedro, offer support, and assure us they’d be open to helping if the situation requires it.
“Pedro is a diamond. At just 20 years old, he’s already proven himself, and any factory would be thrilled to have him.”
A Deal Signed in Better Times
The revelation of KTM’s financial struggles came as a shock to Acosta and his team, especially given the assurances provided earlier this year.
“Nobody warned us of this possibility when we signed the contract in May,” Valera admitted. “We were told KTM was a financial powerhouse. This has been an absolute surprise.”
Despite KTM’s assurances about their commitment to MotoGP, Acosta’s team remains cautious.
“In May, we signed with a winning project, a company boasting significant profits and a clear vision to challenge the current MotoGP leader, Ducati. Six months later, everything has changed, and we are left wondering what happened.”
Valera emphasized that their primary concern is not just having a bike for next season but the conditions under which they will compete.
A Question of Mismanagement
While praising KTM’s racing department and its leader, Pit Beirer, Valera pointed to broader mismanagement within the company as the root cause of the current predicament.
“The MotoGP racing department is a victim of KTM's mismanagement,” he said. “We maintain a good relationship with Pit and his team, but it’s clear that this situation stems from issues beyond their control.”
The Future of Acosta
As one of MotoGP’s most promising talents, Acosta’s trajectory is unlikely to falter, even if KTM’s struggles persist. With manufacturers like Ducati eager to step in, his future in the sport appears secure. However, the unfolding drama surrounding KTM serves as a stark reminder of how quickly fortunes can change.
For now, the spotlight remains on Pedro Acosta—a rider every factory covets and every fan should watch closely.
