Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, several adjustments have been made to the Circuit of the Americas to prevent track limit violations.

During last year's United States grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, track limits became an issue due to high-speed corners and large asphalt run-off areas, making it difficult for the FIA to monitor multiple violations.

In the 2023 season, 35 lap times were deleted due to track limits, with drivers urging the FIA to take stronger action after some breaches went unpunished.

Now, it has been confirmed that the required changes have been made to help resolving the issue.

The asphalt run-offs at Turns 6, 13, 14, and 15 have been narrowed by 1.5 meters and covered with turf, encouraging drivers to stay within track limits to avoid losing control.

The run-off area at the exit of Turn 11 will be enhanced with 'fake' gravel to discourage drivers from going beyond the track limits.

Furthermore, cameras have been installed in some areas to help monitor any violations.

Another problem being addressed is the bumpy track surface at COTA, which forced Aston Martin to retire Fernando Alonso’s car due to floor damage during last year’s campaign.

Max Verstappen then claimed that the circuit was ‘not up to F1 level’.

Additionally, Mercedes and Ferrari both blamed the combination of bumps and fast corners for the increased plank wear on the floor of Charles Leclerc’s and Lewis Hamilton’s car, which led to their post-race disqualification.

These complaints led to another complete resurfacing of the famous track. However, that is just a temporary fix for a long-term problem at the location.

The only way to permanently solve this issue would be to dig up the track and rebuild it below the clay layer, which would take more time and money than resurfacing, and since COTA hosts races all year, closing the track for several months isn’t possible.
