Lando Norris blamed McLaren's Las Vegas struggles on a long-standing front-end grip issue, which worries him for some time now.
McLaren has a tough weekend at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with their struggles on the low-grip circuit allowing Ferrari to get closer in the Constructors’ Championship.
Lando Norris finished sixth, just ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri in seventh, marking the team’s worst performance since the team became the one to beat earlier this season.
On the other hand, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen clinched the title two races early, while Ferrari’s third and fourth-place finishes helped them narrow McLaren’s advantage to just 24 points ahead of the next round in Qatar.
Although Mercedes’ one-two finish helped limit Ferrari’s points gain, Norris was more focused on the MCL38’s problems. He expressed concerns about how difficult it was to drive, especially in low-grip conditions, which have been a long-standing weakness for McLaren.
When asked about Mercedes helping McLaren’s title hopes, Norris, quoted by Motorsport.com, responded: “Yeah, you could say that; that doesn’t really matter.
“For us, of course, it matters. I don’t think of those things, I think how bad our car was today. That’s what worries me.
“Mercedes being strong, how poor we’ve been all weekend. Clearly, we’ve a lot of work to do with our car, it’s too difficult to drive, it doesn’t work in these conditions.
“It doesn’t work in many other tracks where we’ve had similar conditions, but we’ve been able to get everything out of it sometimes.
“Even when people think we’ve had the best car, we’ve absolutely not. We still won some of those races.
“Those were the great weekends but this weekend, even if I feel like I drove pretty well, I couldn’t have got anything more out of it.
“And if I tried I probably would have ended up in a wall somewhere.”
