News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Jorge Martin's debut with Aprilia has been far from smooth. After suffering multiple injuries during pre-season testing and training, the reigning MotoGP champion provided an update on his condition and recovery. Despite setbacks, Martin remains focused on returning to the track as soon as possible
Jorge Martin’s first season with Aprilia has started in the worst possible way. Martin got injured on the first day of testing in Sepang, which led to surgery and forced him to miss the rest of pre-season testing. Just when things started to look good, a new training accident happened just a few days before the race.
While training, Martin crashed again and broke bones in his left hand. To clarify, this was a different injury from the one in Sepang. He needed another surgery, which was successful, but it means the 2025 season will start without the reigning champion.
After his second injury, Martin spoke out for the first time, making it clear that he won’t give up.
“Injuries are always hard, but when they come one after another, it feels even worse. This time, it’s been really tough, both physically and mentally. For the first time in my life, I have to miss the first race of the season,” Martin shared on Instagram.
He also explained that after his Sepang crash, he was training to get ready for Thailand when he got injured again. This time, he broke four bones, on top of the other three fractures from Sepang.
“One thing I know is that I can get through this. I don’t know if it will make me stronger, but I do know that I won’t give up. My only goal now is to fully recover so I can return to racing and doing what I love—riding motorcycles. There are many races ahead, but I only have one hand, and I need to take care of it.
“Thank you to Aprilia for always supporting me, to my family, my fans, and everyone who sends me encouragement. It truly means a lot.”
With Martin unable to race, Aprilia’s test rider, Lorenzo Savadori, will take his place in the season opener. Both fans and the team will be hoping for Martin’s quick recovery so he can return to the track as soon as possible.
