Joan Mir expressed frustration with Honda after the MotoGP test in Barcelona, as the team failed to deliver any significant upgrades to the struggling RC213V.

With Honda finishing the season last in the manufacturers' championship, there were high expectations for the post-season test in Barcelona. However, while Yamaha introduced both a new chassis and a new engine, Mir revealed that Honda did not bring any genuinely new components. Instead, Mir tested parts he had already tried in previous races or private sessions.

This lack of progress left Mir concerned about Honda’s prospects for 2025, even questioning the value of attending the Barcelona test.

“The reality is that I didn’t have much to test; I had already tried everything before. That’s what happened today,” said Mir, the 2020 MotoGP champion. “You expect more from a test as important as this one at the end of the season. How can I not be angry? There are deadlines for things to arrive, but here, they just haven’t, for one reason or another.”

He added, “Thankfully, we have another test next week, but I’m clearly not happy. We’re all in this together, and we all want to improve the situation. But honestly, if nothing new arrives for this test, I don’t know what to expect next week. We remain far behind, and all we can do is hope to get closer.”

After seven hours on track, Mir ended the day in 15th place. The top-performing Honda rider was Johann Zarco, who finished 0.813s behind Alex Marquez.

Honda had shown some improvements after the summer break, mostly highlighted by stronger performances during the Misano rounds, yet the Barcelona test underscored the ongoing challenges.

Mir emphasized the need to maintain faith in Honda, as he is contracted with the team until 2026. However, his disappointment was very visible.

“I was hoping for more progress with the project here,” Mir said. “This isn’t the right time to draw conclusions; I’ve done 70 laps testing things I’ve already tried twice before. Everyone in the team expected more. A new bike was essential here to begin seeing real progress.”

He acknowledged the incremental updates Honda had introduced throughout the year but lamented the delays in delivering key improvements. “We expected more. Progress isn’t happening as it should. You have to believe in it because I’ll be here for another two years,” he concluded.
