Williams driver Alex Albon will adopt Franco Colapinto’s setup for the Mexican Grand Prix as he seeks a more balanced performance with his upgraded car. The recent Williams updates, introduced at the Dutch Grand Prix, have improved Albon's results.
Alex Albon plans to adopt elements of Franco Colapinto’s setup for the Mexican Grand Prix, hoping it will help him find a more balanced feel with his updated Williams car.
Williams introduced their new upgrade package at the Dutch Grand Prix in August, which Albon put to good use by scoring points in both Monza and Baku. “This weekend will be my first time leaning a bit more on what the other side of the garage has been doing, to see if it can resolve some of the issues I’ve been experiencing,” Albon explained. “In Mexico, it’s particularly crucial because the challenges I’m facing are very corner-specific – especially in the type of low-speed corners that dominate the track.”
When asked if brake locking had emerged as a new issue following the updates, Albon clarified that the problem has just become more noticeable, and is now a key focus of his adjustments.
Albon added that having a strong teammate like Colapinto in the other car is helpful, as it provides additional references for setups that can cover any performance gaps.
Colapinto’s recent point-scoring performance in Austin with a 10th-place finish “raises the level for everyone,” Albon said, though he noted that facing competitive pressure isn’t new to him. “We’ve had the simulator running all weekend, analyzing the differences over the last few days,” he added.
“When I have an off weekend, we’re still scoring points, which is definitely a positive. This pressure isn’t new – go back a few years, and I’ve been through similar situations. That’s racing; you face this kind of pressure from nine years old. So, I’m used to it.”
