News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsWilliams has been summoned to the stewards at the Chinese Grand Prix after failing to hand over required video footage from cameras on their front and rear wings.
These videos are important because they help the FIA check if the wings are bending more than allowed, something known as “flexi-wings.”
According to F1’s technical delegate, Jo Bauer, Williams didn’t provide the footage within one hour after the end of Friday’s first practice session. This goes against Technical Directive TD055A, which was brought in at the Australian Grand Prix just last week.
Team representatives must now report to the stewards at 8:30am on Saturday morning, local time (1:30am CET). If they can’t explain the missing footage, they could face penalties, in the worst case, even disqualification of both drivers.
The FIA has recently tightened its rules on rear wings after concerns that some teams, like McLaren, may be using designs that flex under speed to gain an advantage. For this weekend’s race, the allowed amount of wing flex has been reduced, and stricter tests have been introduced.
