News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsToto Wolff chose not to comment on Mercedes' 2025 car, preferring to wait for pre-season testing in Bahrain to see if balance and tyre issues have been resolved.
Toto Wolff insists he would "rather not talk too much" about Mercedes' prospects for 2025 as the team looks to return to its former title-winning ways.
Since the start of the ground-effect era in 2022, Mercedes has struggled to consistently challenge for victories, securing just one win that year, going winless in 2023, and then claiming four victories last season. However, despite those wins, the W15 car proved difficult to master, with performance swings caused by ride height changes and track conditions.
The team’s inconsistencies ultimately led to a fourth-place finish in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, and Wolff remains cautious about predicting future success. He has made it clear that he prefers to wait until pre-season testing in Bahrain before making any statements about the team’s competitiveness.
"These cars are so complicated to hit the sweet spot, that we've only done it on a few occasions," Wolff, quoted by RacingNews365 admitted, noting that while Mercedes was dominant at Las Vegas, it struggled to compete for podiums at other circuits.
He also emphasised the importance of resolving the W15’s balance issues and improving tyre management before drawing conclusions.
"I'd rather not talk too much and see how we can perform in the tests," he added.
With 2025 marking the final season under the current technical regulations, Mercedes hopes to use this period to regain consistency before a fresh start in 2026. While last year’s four victories represented progress, they were overshadowed by unpredictable performance.
Now, the challenge is to provide George Russell and rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli with a car capable of fighting at the front – something Wolff knows will not be easy.
