The FIA has dismissed McLaren’s right of review over the five-second penalty handed to Lando Norris at the US Grand Prix after a battle with Max Verstappen.

Lando Norris was penalized for leaving the track and gaining an advantage over Red Bull's Max Verstappen on Lap 52 of last week's United States Grand Prix.

The penalty knocked the British driver off the podium and cost him an additional three points in the championship battle against Verstappen.

Ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, McLaren decided to submit a right of review over the punishment to the FIA, despite initially stating that they wouldn’t take that step.

The Woking team had to present a new element of evidence that was not accessible to the stewards at the time of their initial decision.

This evidence provided an alternate perspective on the incident, claiming that Verstappen was actually the one overtaking, as Norris had passed the Red Bull driver before reaching Turn 12.

After reviewing the evidence, the stewards concluded that it did not meet the necessary threshold, leading to the dismissal of the right of review.

“In this case, the concept that the written Decision (document number 69) was the significant and relevant new element, or that an error in the decision was a new element, is not sustainable and is, therefore rejected,” reads the FIA statement.

Therefore, the results from Austin remain unchanged, with Norris in fourth place and Verstappen on the last podium step.
