Marc Marquez reflects on his transformative year with Gresini Racing in 2024, crediting the satellite team for reviving his competitive spirit and helping him secure a Ducati factory seat for 2025. After overcoming challenges and adapting to the GP23 bike, Marquez finished the season with three victories and a third-place standing, setting the stage for his first serious title challenge in five years.
Marc Marquez has expressed that he feels "reborn" after a successful year with Gresini Racing and has thanked the team for playing a crucial role in reviving his career.
After leaving Honda at the end of 2023, Marquez found new life at Ducati’s satellite team in 2024, despite competing with the older GP23 bike. Although the transition was challenging at first, Marquez managed to quickly adapt and find his rhythm when the season began in March. He gained momentum after the summer break, securing three victories and finishing third in the rider standings.
His strong early-season performance helped him secure a factory seat at Ducati for 2025, positioning him to fight for the championship next season, his first genuine title challenge in five years.
Marquez acknowledged that he needed a more supportive and friendly environment after the tough ending at Honda, which had been marked by a significant injury and an uncompetitive bike.
“Gresini became a super important team in my career in just one year, and I found the perfect atmosphere to ‘reborn,’ as they say on social media, and feel competitive again,” said Marquez. “I found the perfect family, the perfect environment, with my brother [Alex] as a teammate and the team behind me.”
He emphasized the team’s professionalism and collaborative spirit: “They were always working in the same direction. It’s a team that is super professional, and you can achieve what you want with them.”
Gresini Racing is an independent squad with minimal factory support from Ducati in comparison to other teams like Pramac and VR46. However, Marquez believes the team’s smaller scale played a key role in revitalizing his career, offering a more personal, less corporate environment than his previous experience at Honda.
“Being in a satellite team reminded me of the passion for motorcycles,” he continued. “Of course, at Honda, I had my friends and a great team, but in a factory team, everything is a bit more serious. Gresini is more casual, more like a family. It reminds me more of my Moto2 days when I could talk directly to the team boss to discuss decisions. Here, I can speak directly to Nadia, and we make decisions quickly.”
He also noted that the bike was a crucial factor in his success: “In a satellite team with a good bike, you can achieve very good things, as I did this year, and as other riders have done in the past with Gresini. They have a long history and vast experience in managing different situations.”
