McLaren’s Lando Norris considers Mercedes the top contender for victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, following their dominant one-two finish in Las Vegas.
McLaren heads into the Qatar Grand Prix with a big chance to win the Constructors' Championship for the first time since 1998.
The team from Woking lead Ferrari by 24 points, with 103 points still available in the last two races. Red Bull is further behind, 53 points off the top, leaving McLaren in a strong position to secure the title this weekend.
Ferrari has admitted they might not be as strong as McLaren on the high-speed corners of the Lusail circuit. Meanwhile, Mercedes could shake things up after their incredible 1-2 finish in Las Vegas, where George Russell took a dominant win from pole position, while Lewis Hamilton climbed from 10th to second.
Even though Lando Norris lost the Drivers' Championship to Max Verstappen last weekend, he remains focused on helping McLaren secure the Constructors’ title. Norris believes the weekend is open for any team to succeed but sees Mercedes as the team to watch.
“Mercedes were very quick here last year, so they're definitely the favourites coming into this weekend,” he said quoted by RacingNews365.
“Red Bull were good last year, we were good as well. So I'm expecting a good battle.
“I'm hoping it probably favours us a little bit more than Ferrari. But Ferrari fixed a lot of the woes that they were struggling with last year.
“So [I have] no idea, but when you look at things, Ferrari and Mercedes seem like the guys in a better flow at the moment.”
