According to Lance Stroll, broke issues caused him to spin during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix formation lap, leaving his Aston Martin stuck in the gravel and him unable to participate in the race.

Aston Martin's struggles were clear during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, as the team was one of only two, along with Sauber, that failed to score any points in the latest triple-header.

Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso faced tough challenges all weekend, with both of them crashing out in the wet qualifying session on Sunday morning, forcing their mechanics to repair their cars in only a few hours.

Despite the cars being ready after a lot of hard work, hopes for improvement quickly faded before the race even got a chance to start, when Lance Stroll crashed his AMR24 during the formation lap.

On a wet track from the rain that had been falling since Saturday, Stroll lost control of his car at Turn 4. Although he initially managed to avoid the barriers, he spun into the gravel and became stuck. Unable to get back on track, Stroll had to wait for a recovery vehicle to remove his car, forcing race control to abort and delay the start of the race.

This incident kept him from participating in the race, while rivals like Alpine and VCARB scored important points at Interlagos, pushing the Canadian driver further down the standings to 13th place.

After the crash, Stroll described his spin as “really strange” and suggested a possible brake issue may have contributed to his loss of control.

“As soon as I touched the brake I just had a huge rear lock and then I was a passenger from there,” he told F1 TV.

“I’ve never felt that in the car, so maybe there was a brake failure problem and we have to look into it.”

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, considering his previous success in wet conditions, he added: “For sure in a race like this anything’s possible, so to be out on Lap 1 really sucks – but we have to look into what happened.”
