News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Jack Miller is gearing up for a fresh start in MotoGP 2025 after losing his KTM seat last year. Thanks to Pramac Racing’s switch from Ducati to Yamaha, the Australian rider has been handed a lifeline. However, Yamaha team manager Maio Meregalli warns that adapting to the M1 bike will be no easy task for Miller, setting the stage for a season filled with challenges and opportunities.
Jack Miller's MotoGP journey took an unexpected turn last year when he lost his KTM seat and found himself on the edge of missing out on the 2025 rider lineup. However, a twist of fate gave him a second chance, as Pramac Racing’s switch from Ducati to Yamaha opened a door for the Australian rider.
Despite this fortunate opportunity, Miller's transition to Yamaha’s M1 bike won’t be smooth sailing. Yamaha’s team manager, Maio Meregalli, has addressed the challenges ahead: Miller will need to adapt his riding style to fully understand the capabilities of his new bike.
“Jack will have to make adjustments to his approach,” Meregalli told GPOne. “Miguel Oliveira’s riding style is already well-suited to the M1, so his learning curve will be less steep. With Jack, there will be more of an adaptation process, but we’re optimistic.”
A New Era for Pramac Racing and Yamaha
Pramac enters 2025 with renewed energy after crowning Jorge Martin as last year’s champion. While the team now transitions to Yamaha machinery, Meregalli believes that Pramac’s championship-winning experience will bring a much-needed boost to Yamaha’s efforts.
“They bring a winning mentality and an unparalleled structure,” Meregalli explained. “Their professionalism, experience, and communication are second to none. Starting this relationship has been exciting, and their enthusiasm is contagious.”
Early Signs of Promise
Miller and Oliveira have already tested the Yamaha M1, and while the early feedback is promising, the team knows there is still work to be done. “Their comments were positive,” Meregalli revealed. “Miguel even told me he’s happy with the bike so far, which is a great sign.”
As Yamaha looks to make the most of this new project with Pramac, the team is focused on gathering as much data as possible to fast-track their progress. “The more information we can gather, the better we can refine the bike. We’ve spent recent seasons with just one or two riders, so this is a big step forward for us,” Meregalli said.
The Road Ahead
While Miguel Oliveira might find himself at home on the M1, Miller’s journey will require consistency, adaptability, and patience. With Yamaha’s support and Pramac’s championship-winning experience, Miller has the tools to succeed, but the journey won’t be easy.
