Despite the 2024 season being probably Charles Leclerc’s best one in his F1 career, the Monegasque driver pointed out Ferrari’s struggles as well.
The 2024 season has been probably the best one in F1 so far for Charles Leclerc but it was still full of highs and lows. The highs definitely include two special victories - one at his home track in Monaco, making his childhood dream a reality, and the other one in Monza, in from of the Tifosi crowd.
The Monegasque driver also managed to secure seven more podiums on top of his wins and three pole positions.
However, Ferrari also went through a tough period where the team had to experiment with the setup, facing some challenging moments with the SF-24 when it was extremely difficult for the drivers to handle the car, failing to show consistency, which is the key to success in Formula 1.
Charles Leclerc shared his perspective on the season, remaining optimistic about the future.
"It's been a season that, emotionally speaking, was really contrasting," said Leclerc in an interview with The Race and ESPN.
"Because I've had the two wins that I always dream of, which is Monaco and Monza.
"But at the same time, we went through a time where we had to experience things with the set-up, and we went through very tricky parts with the car where it was very difficult to drive, that pushed us to not optimise our weekend.
"It was difficult to then come back to our form.
"So, when you look back at the season, there were highs and lows - but the highs were very high and the lows were very low."
The Italian team has secured three wins this season, including Leclerc's two previously mentioned victories and another by Carlos Sainz at the Australian Grand Prix. This marks a clear improvement compared to the 2023 season when Scuderia managed to win only once with Sainz in Singapore.
"Sometimes there are seasons that are quite frustrating in one way because you do a really good job but it kind of looks normal because you are fifth or sixth because the car is just not good enough," said Leclerc.
"But I feel like I am improving race after race, season after season, so, yeah. I feel it is that way.
"But I'll keep pushing, keep working on things that I still don't like when I look at the data about the way I drive and the way I work. Hopefully, I'll get even better,” he concluded.
With six races remaining in the 2024 season and the United States Grand Prix just under three weeks away, Charles Leclerc sits third in the Driver's Championship, 34 points behind Lando Norris. Meanwhile, Ferrari also trails second-placed Red Bull by the same margin in the Constructors' Championship.
