On Tuesday, Ferrari announced a multi-year agreement to supply engines and gearboxes for Cadillac's planned 2026 Formula 1 team.
The Andretti Formula 1 project is set to make its debut in 2026, marking a significant step in expanding the grid to 22 cars for the first time in a decade.
Backed by General Motors under the Cadillac brand, the new team promises to bring fresh energy and American presence to the sport.
The project was originally led by former F1 driver Michael Andretti, but it hit a roadblock when F1 turned down the initial bid, despite approval from the FIA. After Andretti stepped away from ownership and Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global’s motorsport division, took charge, the project took a more promising turn,
As part of the deal, Ferrari has been confirmed as the engine and gearbox supplier for the Andretti team starting in 2026. This multi-year agreement will see Ferrari provide power units and gearboxes for the first two seasons, before General Motors introduces its own power unit, which is expected to be in 2028.
With this collaboration, Andretti will join Ferrari's ranks as the third team powered by the Italian manufacturer, alongside Ferrari's works team and Haas.
The official statement says the following:
“Ferrari N.V. (NYSE/EXM: RACE) (“Ferrari” or the “Company”) today announces a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA – F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved.”
