The speculations about Adrian Newey’s move from Red Bull to Aston Martin intensify as even the offered lucrative salary was revealed recently.
According to rumours from reliable sources, Aston Martin should announce the signing Adrian Newey before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, taking place at the Baku City Circuit in only a week.
The famous F1 designer announced earlier this year that he will leave Red Bull, after spending 18 years with the team. He also has already taken a step back from the car development, raising speculations about its relation to Red Bull’s decline in performance over the past few months.
The Briton, widely regarded as one of the greatest car designers in the sport's history, has been already working with Aston Martin in the past, concretely on the Valkyrie hypercar.
Now it appears that he has committed to Aston Martin full-time, reportedly signing a £30m per year contract with the British team, according to BBC Sport. This salary places him among the highest earners in the sport, surpassing the pay of 17 out of 20 drivers on the current F1 grid.
Newey joining the team marks another significant investment by Aston Martin under the leadership of Lawrence Stroll, who has a goal to build a world championship contender from the in-debt-drowning Force India/Racing Point team. The Silverstone-based team recently relocated to a new facility, complete with its own wind tunnel, which is only making Stroll’s goals more realistic.
Next season, Aston Martin will once again field Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll as its driver pairing for the third consecutive year.
