Lando Norris set the fastest time in the second free practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix, followed by teammate Lando Norris and Isack Hadjar. Jack Doohan suffered a big crash.
The second practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix was very busy and full of problems. At the start, many cars went out quickly, but Carlos Sainz had trouble straight away. His Williams car was bouncing a lot through Turn 13, and he had to go back to the garage. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton set the first good lap time of 1 minute 29.9 seconds.
Lando Norris was about to go faster, but then there was a big crash. Jack Doohan lost control of his Alpine at the first corner and hit the wall hard. It looked scary, but luckily he was not hurt. The red flag came out and the session stopped for a long time so they could clean the track. Apparently, it was a DRS issue as it didn't close in time.

When the session restarted, drivers went out again, but soon there was another problem. Fernando Alonso spun and got stuck in the gravel. Again, the red flag stopped the session. After that, with only 19 minutes left, the drivers hurried to go out and do some fast laps. Many drivers were using soft tyres, which are the quickest.
Charles Leclerc, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar all went to the top of the times. But then the McLaren drivers did even better. Lando Norris went fastest with a time of 1 minute 28.1, but Oscar Piastri beat him by just a small bit.
But the surprises didn’t end there as grass near Turn 7 caught fire, prompting another red flag. When the session resumed with just 7 minutes left, the same issue occurred once more, leading to a final red flag that brought the session to an early end.
At the end of the session, Oscar Piastri was first with the fastest time. Lando Norris was second, very close behind him. Isack Hadjar did very well to finish third for Racing Bulls. Lewis Hamilton was fourth for Ferrari. Liam Lawson was fifth, then came George Russell in sixth and Charles Leclerc in seventh. Max Verstappen was only eighth after saying his car did not feel right. Pierre Gasly was ninth for Alpine and Carlos Sainz was tenth for Williams.
