If you are planning on attending the 2025 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, you might find yourself in completely different surroundings compared to this year's event. Hungaroring circuit is in the middle of a major development to provide even better experience for fans and more comfort for drivers.
The Hungarian Grand Prix has been on the Formula 1 calendar since 1986. The circuit, located close to Budapest, was completely built in only 8 months, which makes it the fastest-constructed modern Formula 1 circuit ever.
Upon entering the Hungaroring paddock in 2025, the Formula 1 teams will encounter surroundings that differ significantly from those in 2024. The circuit, which has been a staple on the Formula 1 calendar since 1986, has been going through a major renovation in the last month and there is still a lot of work to do. Despite some modifications over the years, including a significant layout change in 2003, many of the facilities and grandstands had remained unchanged and that is why a big renovation was very well needed.
After several delays for so many years, the reconstruction of Hungaroring has finally begun earlier this year. The renovation is planned in two phases, with the first one completed on May 22, 2024. This initial stage involved reconstructing the retaining walls in the event area and significantly widening the paddock. Additionally, two new tunnels were constructed under the finish straight.
Right after this year's Hungarian Grand Prix, the redevelopment continued into its second phase. This phase includes further enhancements such as the development of the utility network and completion of a new main entrance and building. The paddock area was expanded by 19 meters, although only the original section was used for the 2024 event, with the additional space allocated for driver's parking.
Significant updates to the circuit include the renovation of run-off zones at Turns 4 and 12. The planned demolition of the main building, which had stood since 1986, had already taken place after this year's Grand Prix. A new, wider pit building with larger garages is set to replace it. The main and only covered grandstand, known as the Super Gold grandstand, is also being demolished and will be completely renovated.
The renovation marks a significant step in the modernization of Hungaroring. The goal is to create a modern and attractive circuit for the fans, which will stay on the Formula 1 calendar for many more years.
