Q1

The first part of the Singapore Grand Prix didn’t offer many unexpected moments as the top teams found their ways through to Q2 pretty smoothly.

As expected, Sauber drivers struggled around the streets of Marina Bay, with their drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, finishing P19 and P20, respectively, and once again showcasing the struggles Sauber has been dealing with the whole season.

Franco Colapinto had a few moments close to the wall but amazingly avoided any contact and secured the Q2 entry for himself and Williams.

Pierre Gasly, after struggling the whole weekend with lack of pace, finished only P18, while his teammate Esteban Ocon put everything he had in his lap and managed to claim the last Q2 pass.

Last two drivers who didn’t make Q3 were Lance Stroll in Aston Martin and Daniel Ricciardo, who must now be even more worried for his RB seat.

Q2

The second part of the session started with a big moment for Max Verstappen. The championship leader had to get his car under control again after running wide and almost hitting the wall. As a result, his time was deleted.

As expected, Esteban Ocon didn’t manage to improve much more in Q2 and finished P15 but it was still a good result for the Frenchman, considering Alpine's pace over the weekend.

What was less expected, is Sergio Perez starting P13 tomorrow. The Mexican driver managed to beat only Ocon and Magnussen, who finished P14 for Haas, and disappointed Red Bull in qualifying once again.

The Williams drivers, Alexander Albon and Franco Colapinto finished only P11 and P12, respectively, failing to fulfill the strong potential Williams had in Singapore.

Q3

The last part of the session included a few drivers like Hulkenberg or Tsunoda after they managed to pull an amazing lap way faster than both of their teammates.

At this point, it still seemed that the pole position battle is going to be between McLaren and Ferrari, with Max Verstappen and Mercedes sharing the positions just behind.

However, Carlos Sainz lost his Ferrari in the final corner of his flying lap and ended up crashing into the barriers, which brought out the red flag.

After the restart Lando Norris pulled off an amazing lap, waiting to see if some of his contenders is going to beat him to the pole position.

Charles Leclerc was expected to be one of them, however, he managed to put his Ferrari only behind Nico Hulkenberg in P4. Later on, his time got deleted, ending the disastrous Q3 in P9, beating only his teammate, who was at that point out of the car for some time.

Max Verstappen managed to beat Lewis Hamilton to second place while being happy with how his RB20’s pace has improved since yesterday.

George Russell locked the second row for Mercedes with fourth place, followed by Oscar Piastri only in fifth for McLaren and Nico Hulkenberg in amazing sixth place for Haas.

Fernando Alonso finished seventh for Aston Martin with Yuki Tsunoda in eight.
