Despite losing star riders like Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Enea Bastianini to rival teams, Ducati’s team boss Davide Tardozzi is confident the Desmosedici and its new "dream team" pairing of Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez will dominate the 2025 MotoGP season.
Davide Tardozzi is confident that the Desmosedici and its "dream team" rider line-up will remain dominant in the upcoming season, despite losing Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Enea Bastianini to rival teams.
Replacing Bastianini as a teammate is Marc Marquez, who is no stranger to the "dream team" concept, as he encountered it when triple champion Jorge Lorenzo joined him at Honda.
Perhaps learning from that experience, Marquez appears to be approaching his new role with a sense of understanding toward Bagnaia, acknowledging the Italian’s status as Ducati’s leading rider.
“I’m in a situation I’ve never experienced before: arriving in a team where, although there’s no official number one or two, there’s a clear leader. Pecco [Bagnaia] is the one who’s delivered two world titles to Ducati, won 11 races last year, and understandably, he’s the one setting the tone for pre-season and the early races,” Marquez recently commented.
A notable distinction from Lorenzo’s transition to Honda is that Marquez already has Ducati experience under his belt, having secured three wins with Gresini this year.
Tardozzi remains optimistic, stating to MotoGP.com: “We’ve left some top riders to other brands, but I still believe we have a dream team. Pecco and Marc are phenomenal riders. I think we’ll foster good collaboration between them and be the team to beat next year.”
While acknowledging the progress of other manufacturers in both bike development and rider line-ups, Tardozzi expressed confidence in Ducati’s prospects: “The Ducati bike and factory team will be very tough to beat. Other brands are improving technically and in their rider pairings, but we have a strong foundation.”
Ducati dominated this season, winning 19 of 20 Sunday rounds, with the factory GP24 leading the way. Preparing for next year, Tardozzi emphasized the importance of further refining the new GP25 over the winter. “The GP24 is already highly competitive, so making a meaningful step forward won’t be easy,” he said. “But we know our competitors will be stronger, with the likes of Aprilia’s riders, Bezzecchi, Jorge [Martin], Vinales, and Bastianini improving alongside KTM.”
For 2025, GP24 machines will be ridden by Gresini’s new pairing of rookie Fermin Aldeguer and Alex Marquez, as well as Franco Morbidelli at VR46. Meanwhile, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Morbidelli’s teammate, will ride the GP25.
