Ducati is considering starting the 2025 MotoGP season with its 2024 bike components, including the chassis and aerodynamics, at the Thai Grand Prix. After a record-breaking 2024 season, the team has chosen to retain the GP24 engine for the next two years.

Ducati has hinted at a possibility that they would start the 2025 MotoGP season with their 2024 chassis and aerodynamics at the Thai Grand Prix.

In 2024, Ducati had an incredible season, and their bike proved to be a massive improvement over the GP23.

Why Is Ducati Sticking to GP24?

Recently, during testing in Thailand, Ducati made a decision to not use their new GP25 engine. Instead, they chose to stick with the GP24 for the next two years because MotoGP engine development will be frozen until 2027.

Ducati’s team manager, Davide Tardozzi, explained that the team tried to improve the GP24 engine but couldn’t find a significant upgrade. Gigi Dall’Igna, Ducati’s technical boss, decided it was too risky to switch to a new engine.

“It’s a big challenge for our team to get the engines ready for the first race, but if Gigi made this choice, we’ll make it happen,” Tardozzi told GPOne. “There’s a real chance we’ll also keep the 2024 chassis and aerodynamics for now. We might test the new parts later in Jerez.”

What’s New on the GP25?

Although Ducati is keeping last year’s engine, the GP25 bike will feature some updates, mainly in electronics and suspension. However, the core of the bike will remain the same, at least for the early races of the season.

Tardozzi also praised MotoGP rules, which help struggling manufacturers like Yamaha and Honda catch up. “I think Dorna made a good decision with these regulations,” he added.

Confidence in Riders

Even though Ducati is not introducing a completely new engine, Tardozzi remains confident in his team’s ability to fight for the championship. He acknowledged that rival manufacturers have improved over the winter, making the 2025 season more competitive.

“I fully trust our riders to be strong contenders for every race and the championship,” he said. “But we know our opponents are good. Some of their engineers even came from Ducati! We won’t win every race, so collecting points consistently will be key to winning the championship.”

As the 2025 season approaches, Ducati fans will be eager to see if their decision to stick with the GP24 engine will pay off in their hunt for another MotoGP title.
