Formula 1 f1 f12025season f1bahrain winners&losers summaries
The 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix had some surprises, even if the race at the front was calm. Piastri was perfect, Haas had a great day, and teams like Red Bull and Aston Martin had a weekend to forget. Here are the biggest winners and losers from Bahrain.
Oscar Piastri was clearly one of the biggest winners from the Bahrain Grand Prix, not just because he won the race, but because of how he did it. He drove with calm and confidence from the very beginning, staying in control the whole time.
Even when a late safety car made things more difficult, Piastri stayed focused and handled the pressure without any mistakes, even though the car behind him had fresher tyres.
The Australian is now only a few points behind his teammate Lando Norris in the championship standings. While Norris found it hard to get the best out of the new car during the weekend, Piastri looked confident and comfortable.
People often say that young drivers could be world champions one day, but with Piastri, it really feels like that future is arriving quickly. Since his mistake in the first race of the season in Australia, he has driven very well and avoided any big errors. His strong form shows that he is not just a future star but someone who could fight for the championship right now.
Oscar's fourth career win in his 50th race 🥳

Red Bull were clear losers in the Bahrain Grand Prix, with a weekend that fell far below their usual high standards. Just one week after Max Verstappen’s strong win in Japan, the team struggled badly in Bahrain.
Problems with the RB21 car, especially with the brakes, left Verstappen fighting hard just to finish sixth. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda could only manage ninth.
Verstappen had to deal with two slow pit stops, one caused by a broken traffic light and another by a stuck tyre. He also spent much of the race stuck behind midfield cars, which is not where anyone expects to see a Red Bull.
It was clear that this time, the car simply wasn’t fast enough. Bahrain showed the team still has big problems to fix, and the win in Japan may have just hidden them for a while. To make things worse, Verstappen has now dropped behind Oscar Piastri in the championship.
With poor pace, mistakes in the pits, and both drivers struggling, Bahrain was a big reality check for Red Bull. This weekend proved they can’t rely on Verstappen alone to carry the team forward.
Haas were big winners in the Bahrain Grand Prix, even if no one expected it. After a poor qualifying, with one car crashing and the other starting last, it looked like a tough weekend.
But on race day, everything changed. Both drivers, Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman, had great races and finished in the top ten. That meant both cars scored points, which was a huge surprise.
Ocon started from 14th and finished eighth, showing strong pace and smart racing. Bearman began right at the back in 20th, but he fought hard and finished tenth. The team made clever strategy choices, like pitting early to gain positions. Even on the hard tyres, which are not easy to manage, both drivers kept their places and stayed fast.
This result pushed Haas up to fifth place in the constructors’ standings, ahead of Williams. It also showed that the team can fight in the midfield and take chances when they come.

Aston Martin were definitely one of the biggest losers from the Bahrain Grand Prix, with a weekend that could hardly have gone worse. Just one year after making a big step forward at this very track, the team struggled badly.
Neither Fernando Alonso nor Lance Stroll was able to fight anywhere near the points, and their final positions, 15th and 17th, were a clear sign that the AMR25 simply isn’t competitive right now.
The car’s problems with traction and slow corners were fully exposed at the Sakhir circuit. Alonso started 13th but couldn’t make any progress, finishing over a minute behind the winner. Stroll, with the wrong setup and too much understeer, was even further back.
Alonso himself admitted that scoring more points this season could be very difficult, and based on the Bahrain performance, he might be right. The team were so far off the pace that they barely registered during the race, and it was easy to forget they were even on track.
Pierre Gasly was definitely a winner from the Bahrain Grand Prix, even if he missed out on sixth place right at the very end. He drove a brilliant race and delivered one of his best weekends in a long time. After qualifying strongly in fifth, and starting fourth thanks to a penalty for another driver, Gasly showed just how far he and Alpine have come in a year.
His race on Sunday was calm and clever. He stayed close to the faster cars for most of the race and made no mistakes, even under pressure. The Alpine team did a great job with the strategy, and Gasly held onto sixth place until the final lap, when Max Verstappen finally managed to pass him. Even so, finishing seventh was a fantastic result and a big step forward for both driver and team.
Gasly’s performance showed that he can make the most of every chance. In a tight midfield battle, it is not easy to stand out, but Gasly did exactly that. His driving all weekend was smooth and confident, and he showed that he could fight with the top teams when the opportunity comes.
This result also gave Alpine their first points of the season, and Gasly’s pride after the race was clear to hear. He helped remind everyone that with the right conditions, he is one of the strongest drivers outside the top teams.

Kimi Antonelli was one of the unlucky losers of the Bahrain Grand Prix, even though his performance for most of the race showed real promise with confident overtakes on big names like Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz.
But his good work was undone by bad timing. Mercedes brought him in for soft tyres just before the safety car came out, which forced him onto an unusual three-stop strategy. This meant he lost key track position and couldn’t recover enough to score points. He ended the race in 11th, just behind his old Formula 2 rival Oliver Bearman.
It was a frustrating end to a promising race, and although he showed his talent, Antonelli leaves Bahrain without any points for the first time in his F1 career. That’s why, despite a good personal performance, he counts as a loser from the weekend.
