News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsAs Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon team up at Williams in 2025, many eyes will be on their battle. Will Sainz’s experience lead the team forward, or can Albon prove he’s ready to compete at the highest level?
Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon becoming teammates at Williams in 2025 might not be as headline-grabbing as Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, but it’s a pairing that has its own fascinating story. Both drivers have something to prove, and their battle as teammates could define the next chapter of their careers.
For Sainz, this move is bittersweet. Leaving Ferrari means stepping out of a car capable of winning races and championships as he’s joining a team focused on long-term goals, with no real chance of consistent podium finishes in the short term.
Still, Sainz is no stranger to challenges. His dominant win in Mexico last year showed what he’s capable of when everything comes together. While he might not have matched Charles Leclerc’s raw speed over one lap, his race pace, work ethic, and smart decisions, which sometimes were against the team’s ones, have always kept him in the game.

For Albon, Sainz’s arrival is just as significant. Over the past few years, Albon has rebuilt his F1 career at Williams, earning praise for dragging an underperforming car into the points time and again. Team boss James Vowles has even said Albon has the potential to be a world champion. But critics argue his previous teammates, like Nicholas Latifi and Logan Sargeant, haven’t been strong enough to show how good Albon really is.
And exactly that changes with Sainz. Now, Albon will be measured against one of F1’s most consistent drivers, which gives him a massive opportunity to prove he belongs at the top. If he can compete with—or even beat—Sainz, it would send a clear message to the paddock that he’s ready for a bigger role in F1 and potentially get offers from the teams higher in the standings.
Ultimately, both drivers face their own challenges. For Sainz, the pressure is on to perform without the tools of a top team. For Albon, it’s about proving his talent against a high-quality teammate. Whoever comes out on top will take a big step forward in their career.
