Despite confidently stating that he will be racing next year, Sergio Perez doesn’t seem to be so sure about his Red Bull future anymore after Abu Dhabi GP opening lap retirement.

Sergio Perez's F1 future is under threat as he faces an uncertain position at Red Bull. The Mexican driver has struggled throughout the season, and his disappointing performance in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has only added to the pressure.

He started the race 10th but was forced to retire on the opening lap after a collision with Valtteri Bottas at the Yas Marina Circuit. The contact damaged his car, and he couldn’t continue racing.

The early retirement from the race made it even harder for him to show Red Bull that he deserves to stay with the team. With only 48 points scored since May, his position is in doubt, and rumors are growing that he could be replaced for the 2025 season.

It is true that Perez had signed a new two-year contract earlier this year, but it now seems very likely that Red Bull might move him aside in favor of Liam Lawson, with Isack Hadjar in line for a promotion from F2 to take Lawson’s seat at RB.

As Red Bull meets next week to decide his future, Perez is unsure whether the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix might’ve been his last race for the team, despite confidently stating a few days ago that he will be definitely racing next year.

When asked by Viaplay if the race in Abu Dhabi was his last for Red Bull, he responded: "I don't know yet.

"I've got a contract for next year to drive, and we are talking with the team to try and reach an agreement.

"It will come down to the next few days to see what happens."
