News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Pedro Acosta, the rapidly rising star in MotoGP, is drawing comparisons to Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher for his relentless work ethic and drive. KTM sees huge potential in Acosta, who is already making a significant impact in his second season. As he aims for a competitive bike in 2025, Acosta's commitment to perfection sets him apart in the world of racing.
Pedro Acosta is a rider who has made a name for himself in MotoGP very quickly. So, it is obvious why KTM couldn’t be more excited about his potential. Acosta made his factory KTM debut at the Thailand Grand Prix, which also marked the start of his second season in MotoGP. After his strong rookie debut, where he secured eight podiums, expectations are high.
It’s understandable why KTM’s motorsport director, Pit Beirer, is impressed with Acosta’s dedication. Speaking to GPOne before the season, Beirer highlighted Acosta’s style: “He wants to ride every single day and is constantly searching for tracks to train on,” he said. “His fitness and performance tests show outstanding results. Pedro gives it his all.”
Beirer also described Acosta as a rough diamond with natural talent, yet not the kind of rider who relies solely on his abilities. “He doesn’t just rest on his laurels. He works day and night to maximize his potential,” Beirer explained. “He spends endless hours on his bike, likely more than any other rider, and he’s always the last to leave the paddock. He meticulously studies data with his crew chief, Paul Trevathan.”
It is this attention to detail that reminds Beirer of legendary Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher, who was particularly known for squeezing every ounce of performance from his car.
Acosta’s speed and determination are what set him apart from other rookies. His performance in Qatar last year, where he won his second race despite starting from the pit lane, only confirmed his status as a remarkable talent.
When Beirer was asked if Acosta is the most gifted rider, he didn’t hesitate for a second: “Yes. He’s not just another Moto2 champion moving up—he’s a truly special talent. Everyone in the paddock agrees on that.”
Yet, Beirer acknowledged the comparisons to other great riders like Marc Márquez. “He has big shoes to fill, but we’re not interested in comparisons. What matters is how we develop his talent and work with him.”
Even though KTM has Acosta, who is giving his best, Beirer revealed that the team still needs a more competitive bike for the 2025 season. “Pedro demands the best from himself, and in return, he expects the best from us,” Beirer said. “When he asked us if we were ready to provide him with a winning motorcycle, we said ‘yes.’ We promised him that.”
However, whether KTM will actually deliver on that promise remains to be seen.
