News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsArvid Lindblad has secured enough FIA Super Licence points to be eligible for a Formula 1 seat.
Arvid Lindblad has taken a big step toward Formula 1 after securing enough FIA Super Licence points to be eligible for a seat in 2025.
The 17-year-old Red Bull junior dominated the Formula Regional Oceania series, winning the title with two races to spare. His success added 18 Super Licence points to his tally, pushing him past the 40 points needed to race in F1.
Lindblad, who will race for Campos in Formula 2 this year, has been rising quickly through the junior ranks. His strong results in F4 and a fourth-place finish in FIA Formula 3 last season had already earned him 32 points.
His Oceania title now ensures he meets the requirements to compete at the top level. Although Super Licence points are only finalised once a driver officially applies, Lindblad is now eligible for an F1 seat if needed.
Red Bull has not announced any plans to change its driver line-up, but Lindblad’s availability makes him a strong option if a seat opens up. The team is also believed to have influenced the FIA’s decision to relax its Super Licence rules, allowing drivers under 18 to apply for an exemption. This change benefits Lindblad, who won’t turn 18 until August, meaning he could be granted permission to take part in F1 sessions before then.
It is still unclear whether he will participate in FP1 sessions for Red Bull or Racing Bulls in 2025, but his eligibility gives both teams more flexibility in their driver line-ups.
Lindblad has said he wants to reach F1 by 2026, and his latest title makes that goal more realistic. With his Super Licence secured, he can focus on his rookie F2 season without extra pressure, knowing that a strong campaign could bring him closer to a Red Bull seat in the future.
