Miguel Oliveira will not line up on the grid at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, as the Pramac Yamaha rider continues to recover from a rare and complex shoulder injury. This marks his third consecutive missed round following a Sprint race crash in Argentina. Augusto Fernandez will again step in as replacement
Miguel Oliveira will not be returning to the MotoGP grid at Jerez, as he is still recovering from a shoulder injury that has kept him out of action for several rounds.
The injury dates back to the Sprint race in Argentina, where Oliveira was involved in a high-impact crash with rookie Fermín Aldeguer. While many expected a typical collarbone fracture—a common injury in MotoGP—Oliveira was diagnosed with something far more complicated: a sternoclavicular dislocation, meaning his collarbone separated from the sternum.
“It really caught me off guard,” Oliveira said during a visit to the Qatar Grand Prix, as quoted by MotoGP.com. “I thought it was a standard collarbone break—three weeks and you’re back. But this injury is much rarer and trickier. It’s been a real process.”
What makes the injury especially tough is that it involved a complete tear of the tendons in his shoulder. Unfortunately, there’s no quick fix for healing these types of injuries.
“You just can’t rush tendon reattachment,” Oliveira explained to Crash.net. “It needs time to build up scar tissue and get strong again”
Pramac confirmed in a recent update that while Oliveira’s shoulder is healing well and showing progress, he is still not ready to get back on the bike. So, once again, he will be sitting out.
Taking his place is Augusto Fernandez, who already stepped in for Oliveira at the last two rounds and was set to make a wild-card appearance for Yamaha at Jerez. Instead, he will continue to race under Pramac colors.
Fernandez arrives at Jerez fresh from a Yamaha private test in Valencia, where rumors suggest that the much-anticipated V4 engine may have made its debut.
As for what’s next, the MotoGP paddock arrives in Jerez for the Grand Prix weekend, followed by an official test day on Monday. Whether Oliveira will be fit to return by the next round remains to be seen.
“I just want to come back 100% ready,” he said. “Not just to ride, but to race competitively.”
So stay tuned for more updates—because when he finally does return, Oliveira is expected to come back more motivated than ever.
