Miguel Oliveira will not participate in Sunday’s Grand Prix after a crash during Saturday’s Sprint. The rider was involved in an incident with rookie Fermín Aldeguer.
Oliveira was taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had no broken bones. However, later in the evening, concerns arose about a possible injury to his left shoulder. So, as a precaution, Oliveira and his team decided he should return to Europe for further medical checks.
This decision is important because Oliveira already missed five races last season due to a serious crash in Indonesia, where he had fractured his right wrist.
Aldeguer, who had recently moved up to MotoGP, apologized for his role in the accident. He tried to overtake Oliveira on lap four, but the move went very wrong, and both riders crashed. At first, people feared that Oliveira had broken his collarbone, but luckily, this was not the case. So while Oliveira had to withdraw, Aldeguer managed to get back on his bike and finish in 19th place.
Officials blamed Aldeguer for causing the crash and gave him a long-lap penalty for Sunday’s race.
Another rider who will miss the race is Lorenzo Savadori, the substitute for Jorge Martin, as he had injured his left shoulder in qualifying. Even though he had completed the warm-up, a medical check afterward ruled him out of the race.
With two riders out and a penalty for Aldeguer, Sunday’s Grand Prix will have plenty of drama on the track.
