Max Verstappen was happy with second place at the Singapore Grand Prix, despite finishing more than 20 seconds behind his championship contender Lando Norris.

Despite a challenging Friday and a less-than-optimistic Singapore GP outlook for Red Bull, Max Verstappen managed to pull off the second-fastest qualifying lap in his RB20 on Saturday and lined up alongside pole-sitter and championship rival Lando Norris in the front row.

Today, Verstappen managed to finish the race in the same place, claiming the first podium for Red Bull since the Dutch GP at the end of August. The Dutchman is still leading the championship, 52 points ahead of Lando Norris, who beat him today of more than 20 seconds.

Red Bull has been dealing with lots of car issues, struggling mainly with the RB20’s balance over the last couple of weeks. In Azerbaijan last weekend, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez was aiming for a podium but suffered a penultimate lap crash with Carlos Sainz from Ferrari, ending both of their races.

Therefore, Verstappen was happy with the outcome of the Singapore Grand Prix for him but highlighted that the team still has a lot of work ahead.

“I tried to do the best I could, tried to manage my own pace to the end,” told F1 TV the reigning champion.

“I think the first stint was a bit difficult for us, quite a bit of tyre degradation. The second stint was a bit better, I was a bit more comfortable as well.

“I think on a weekend where we knew that we were going to struggle, to be P2 is a good achievement.

“Of course, we are not happy with second. Now we just have to try and improve more and more, and that’s what we’ll try to do," he added.
