Marc Marquez embraced a strong start with the factory Ducati team during the official Barcelona test. Reflecting on the seven-hour session, the six-time MotoGP champion highlighted his comfort and calmness, calling Ducati "the best setup in MotoGP."
Marc Marquez said he felt very comfortable and calm on his first day with the factory Ducati team, even calling it the best setup currently in MotoGP.
Marquez signed a two-year deal with the Italian manufacturer this season, and he had his first experience with the Ducati GP25 during an official test in Barcelona on Tuesday.
Over the seven-hour session, Marquez completed 49 laps, some on the GP24 bike and others on the new prototype for the 2025 season.
Reflecting on the day, Marquez said:
"I took a big risk a year ago leaving Honda, and now it’s time to finalize that decision with the factory team. Securing the Ducati deal was the best news and the goal of the plan all along.
"The feeling with the team has been excellent. From the start, I felt comfortable and calm. Staying within Ducati, without changing manufacturers or bikes, and meeting many of the engineers has brought me peace of mind throughout the day."
Marquez also noted some differences between Ducati’s factory setup and Gresini’s satellite setup, highlighting the more serious approach to testing.
"Today was about returning to the kind of structured work typical of a factory team," he explained. "There’s a strict plan, everything is pre-established, and the rider’s role is fully focused on providing the best feedback to the factory."
Tuesday also marked Marquez’s first collaboration with Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi.
Although Marquez and Tardozzi were previously on opposite sides, as Marquez beated Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso to win the title in 2019, their relationship remains strong.
"Tardozzi handles more of the sporting side, and today was about technical matters," said Marquez. "But there are people I’ve known for over a decade, and our personal relationships, built as rivals, continue now as teammates.
"Inside the box, I felt very comfortable. Everything was precise, and we’ve already spent 90% of the session testing the 2025 bike."
