News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsAndrea Kimi Antonelli topped the timesheets in the first session of Bahrain pre-season testing, followed by Liam Lawson and Alex Albon.
Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli was the fastest driver on Wednesday morning in Bahrain, setting a best lap of 1:31.428s. The young Italian completed 78 laps, beating Red Bull's Liam Lawson by just 0.132 seconds. The Kiwi completed 20 laps fewer than Antonelli but still managed to secure second place on the timesheets.
Williams driver Alex Albon was third fastest with a time of 1:31.573s, setting his best lap during a 63-lap run. Yuki Tsunoda was close behind in fourth place for Racing Bulls, just 0.162s off the fastest time, covering 77 laps. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton finished fifth for Ferrari with a time of 1:31.843s after 70 laps.
Jack Doohan had a solid session for Alpine, completing 68 laps and setting a time of 1:31.841s to take sixth place. Fernando Alonso had the lowest lap count of the morning with just 46, but he still managed seventh place with a 1:31.874s.
McLaren's Oscar Piastri was eighth with a best time of 1:32.169s from 65 laps, while Nico Hulkenberg, in his first official test for Sauber, matched that time but did only 55 laps. Rounding out the top 10 was Haas driver Oliver Bearman, who completed 72 laps but was well off the pace with a 1:35.522s.
The session went smoothly with no major problems, apart from Lawson spinning at the exit of Turn 3, though he was able to continue without damage. The afternoon session, where the rest of the drivers will take part, is set to begin at 15:00 local time (13:00 CET).
