The former Formula 1 host and one of MotoGP’s most iconic circuits, is now in a race against time to recover from severe flooding ahead of next month’s Grand Prix.

The track, a fixture on the MotoGP calendar since 1987, is known for its fast, flowing corners and passionate Spanish crowds. However, following extreme rainfall across Spain, Jerez now faces a big challenge to be ready in time for the race weekend.

This isn’t the first time MotoGP has had to deal with weather-related disruptions. Last year, the season finale was moved from Valencia to Barcelona after flooding damaged the circuit, with organisers keen to avoid taking attention away from relief efforts.

Now, with Jerez submerged in water, concerns are growing over whether the race can go ahead as planned. Videos circulating on social media show the start/finish straight completely flooded, and it remains to be seen how much damage has been done to the track and its infrastructure.

The ongoing extreme weather in Spain has already disrupted other motorsport events, with Formula E moving its pre-season test from Valencia to Madrid due to flood damage. With Jerez now in doubt, MotoGP organisers will need to assess the situation swiftly and determine whether the Grand Prix can go ahead.
