News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsCarlos Sainz was the fastest man on Thursday, followed by both Ferrari’s of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
Carlos Sainz set the fastest time on the second day of 2025 F1 pre-season testing, putting Williams at the top of the timesheets with a 1:29.348. His teammate Alex Albon had a free day and will be in the car for the full day tomorrow.
Ferrari was close behind, with Lewis Hamilton just 0.031 seconds slower in 2nd place and Charles Leclerc finishing 3rd with a 1:29.431, showing strong early pace from the team.
Mercedes stayed near the front, with George Russell in 4th on a 1:29.778, while rookie Kimi Antonelli impressed again, finishing 5th and only 0.006 seconds behind his teammate.
Aston Martin had a better day, with Lance Stroll in 6th on a 1:30.229, while Fernando Alonso finished 11th with a 1:30.700.
Red Bull had Liam Lawson in the car, and he ended the day in 7th with a 1:30.252, though it’s not clear how much the team was holding back. Similarly as Williams, Red Bull went with a different line-up approach than other teams, meaning that Max Verstappen wasn't behind the wheel today and will have a full day in the RB21 tomorrow.
Alpine was once again solid in the midfield, with Jack Doohan setting a 1:30.368 for 8th place and Pierre Gasly right behind in 9th on a 1:30.430.
Racing Bulls had both drivers in the mix, with Isack Hadjar finishing 10th on a 1:30.675 and Yuki Tsunoda in 12th with a 1:30.793, keeping them in the fight with the other midfield teams.
McLaren had a quieter day compared to day one, with Oscar Piastri ending 13th on a 1:30.821 and Lando Norris in 14th with a 1:30.882.
Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto finished 15th on a 1:31.057, with Nico Hulkenberg in 16th on a 1:31.457, suggesting they still have work to do.
Haas was again towards the back, with Esteban Ocon 17th on a 1:33.071 and Oliver Bearman 18th with a 1:34.372, showing they may be struggling for pace early in testing.
The day ran smoothly overall, with just a few spins and off-track moments as drivers got up to speed. Rain in the morning meant limited running early on, with only Haas and Aston Martin heading out since they were the only teams who brought intermmediate tyres to Bahrain. Once the track dried, the session ran without any major issues, allowing teams to complete another full day of testing.
