Pre-season testing confirms Ducati’s dominance for the 2025 MotoGP season. With Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia forming a dream team, can Ducati break records and achieve the perfect season?
Thanks to the pre-season testing at Sepang and Buriram, it has been confirmed that Ducati looks strong for the upcoming season.
Some experts even predict that the championship will be an intense battle between Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia. Both riders are now teammates at Ducati’s factory team, creating what many call a dream team. Together, they have won 11 titles—8 of those in MotoGP—and have a total of 91 race wins. Marquez has 62 wins, while Bagnaia has 29. With 22 races on the calendar, it is the longest season in MotoGP history, and Ducati will have a chance to break a few records, including Marquez’s 13-win season. Last year, despite not winning the championship, Bagnaia still had 11 wins in 20 races.
Chasing Records
Another record Ducati might break is the most wins by a single team in a season. This record was set by Honda in 2014 with 14 wins—13 by Marquez and one by Dani Pedrosa at the Czech Grand Prix. Before that, Honda had set the record in 2011 with 13 wins, thanks to Casey Stoner’s 10 victories and Pedrosa’s three.
In 2024, Ducati matched Honda’s 13-win record with Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini’s victories. For Ducati, anything less than 14 wins in 2025 would be a step backward.
Fewer Race Winners in a Season?
The 2025 season could also see the lowest number of different race winners in MotoGP history. The current record for the fewest winners in a season was set in 2012 when only three riders won races—Pedrosa, Stoner, and champion Jorge Lorenzo.
There have been nine seasons where only four different riders won races, including 2015, when Lorenzo won seven, Marquez won five, Valentino Rossi had four, and Pedrosa won two.
In some seasons, five riders have shared race wins. This happened again in 2024 when Bagnaia won 11 races, Jorge Martin won three, Marquez also won three, Bastianini claimed two, and Maverick Viñales won one. Overall, Ducati dominated and won 19 races out of 20 that year.
A similar situation happened in 2003 when Honda won 15 out of 16 races. The only exception was the Catalan Grand Prix, where Loris Capirossi took victory for Ducati.
Ducati’s Challenge
So, what is Ducati’s biggest challenge in 2025? Is it winning every race? No team has ever done it before, but with their dream team duo, it may just be possible.
