Dorna Sports is eager to add a second MotoGP Grand Prix in the US, but no changes will be made to the 2025 calendar. The season will commence at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit, with the Circuit of the Americas as the only North American venue for now. Despite interest in other locations like Laguna Seca and Flatrock Motorsports Park, Dorna is focusing on meeting safety and homologation requirements.
The MotoGP promoter Dorna Sports is keen on adding a second Grand Prix in the USA, but there are no plans to include this in the 2025 calendar. The provisional schedule for the upcoming season is expected to be released shortly after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with the championship set to kick off in Buriram on the first weekend of March.
The Circuit of the Americas will be the solo North American venue for the 2025 season, despite Dorna’s efforts to add another race in the Americas.
“There is definitely ongoing dialogue,” Dorna CCO Dan Rossomondo told Autosport in Misano. “There’s interest in hosting the sport, but we have stringent safety standards, and we can’t just race anywhere. In the US, we need to ensure we’re making an impact in the right market. Austin is centrally located, a popular and vibrant city, and it meets many of our criteria.”
Laguna Seca is currently not meeting the FIM standards for Grand Prix racing and also faces ongoing legal disputes with local residents. Flatrock Motorsports Park in Tennessee was also considered, but it’s not yet ready for MotoGP.
“Flatrock is focused on developing their club track, and we haven’t engaged with them recently as they’re busy with their construction,” Rossomondo noted. “There is interest from a group in the northwest, but it’s still in progress.”
Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which hosted MotoGP from 2008 to 2015, is no longer a candidate, and Dorna’s ideal location, Miami, is also off the table for now: “The dream was to make Miami work for us and the market, but it’s currently not possible.”
For 2025, MotoGP will have a strong Thai presence. Not only will the second and final pre-season test be held in Buriram before the opening of the season, but Dorna is also considering a launch event in Bangkok, where teams could stage a glamorous presentation to generate excitement for the new season.
