News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsLewis Hamilton’s crash in Barcelona cut Ferrari’s day short, leaving Charles Leclerc without any track time as Ferrari wasn’t able to repair the car in time.
Lewis Hamilton’s crash in a Ferrari SF-23 during testing in Barcelona had unintended consequences for Charles Leclerc, as the incident ultimately prevented the Monegasque from getting any track time on Wednesday.
Hamilton had been behind the wheel on the second morning of Ferrari’s three-day programme when he lost control at Turn 12, hitting the barriers and damaging the car’s suspension and bodywork.
While the seven-time world champion walked away unscathed, the team faced an battle to repair the car in time for Leclerc’s planned session later in the day.
Despite Ferrari’s best efforts to rebuild the SF-23, fading daylight at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya meant Leclerc never got the chance to even complete a single lap.
Having already been limited to just 14 laps at Fiorano last week due to wet conditions, he was once again left short on mileage. Ferrari, however, opted not to adjust its schedule to make up for the lost time.
Instead, the team will continue as planned, with Antonio Giovinazzi and junior driver Dino Beganovic taking over for the final day. Beganovic, a Ferrari Driver Academy member since 2020, is working towards securing an FIA superlicence and could be in line for FP1 outings in 2025.
