MotoGP rider Alex Rins took an unconventional route for his birthday this year—opting for surgery to aid his recovery from 2023 season injuries.
Alex Rins recently celebrated his 28th birthday in an unusual way, gifting himself a small surgery on his lower right leg.
In a social media update, Rins explained that the procedure was part of his recovery plan following the serious fractures he sustained during the 2023 Italian Grand Prix. Rins expressed optimism about his recovery, writing:
“Thanks for your best wishes! I got myself a birthday present in [the] form of a small surgery to start the 2025 in perfect shape .”
Rins had a challenging season with Yamaha, finishing 18th overall, with his best result being an eighth-place finish. His season was further disrupted as he missed three rounds: Sachsenring and Silverstone due to wrist and foot injuries, and Emilia Romagna due to illness.
Rins isn’t alone in addressing injuries during the off-season. Luca Marini also recently underwent surgery to remove a plate from his right collarbone, which he fractured during the 2023 Indian Grand Prix.
With the next tests scheduled from January 31 to February 2, both Rins and Marini have time to recover and be ready for testing.
