Before the start of the race it started to rain. Most of the drivers started the race on intermediate tyres.

After the start, Russell took the lead, followed by Verstappen, Norris and Piastri.

Russell was building a lead, but as the track dried, the situation began to change and the gap to the front began to close.

Norris got by Verstappen and Russell on lap 21 (out of 70) and took the lead. Russell was then passed by Verstappen.

On lap 25, Sargeant crashed for the second time, but this time the race was over for him and the safety car had get our of the pits for the first time.

Norris didn't make it into the pits when safety car was deployed, heading there one lap later and dropping to third.

The drivers gradually changed to slicks. Verstappen and Russell pitted at the same time, Norris stayed on the track two laps longer and attempted an overcut. He came back on track close to Verstappen, but had a lot of work to do to stay on the track.

He also ended up losing the position he gained when Russell got by him. But the Mercedes driver made a mistake two laps later and Norris took back second place.

On lap 53, Sainz also spun on lap time and was hit by Alex Albon. The safety car had to take to the track again.

After the restart, Verstappen started build the gap. The Mercedes drivers pitted under the safety car and began to chase the McLaren drivers, but were able to get only in front of Piastri.

At the front, Verstappen controlled the lead and went on to take his sixth win of the season. Norris and Russell were also on the podium, which was the first podium of the year for Mercedes.

The race didn't go well for Ferrari as the Italian team didn't score any points after their success in Monaco.
