News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Discover how Diogo Moreira and Thomas Chareyre stunned the racing world by defeating Valentino Rossi and Luca Marini at the 2025 100km of Champions in Tavullia.
Valentino Rossi’s annual 100km of Champions in Tavullia ended with a surprising twist as Diogo Moreira and Thomas Chareyre snatched victory from the hands of the event’s iconic host and his half-brother, Luca Marini. The unlikely duo clocked an impressive time of 1:43:59:623 to claim the crown, marking an unforgettable moment in the gala’s history.
Rossi and Marini Fall Just Short
The reigning champions, Rossi and Marini, were widely expected to dominate on the dirt track at the VR46 Ranch. However, the pair had to settle for second place. Their performance was strong, but not enough to overcome Moreira and Chareyre’s relentless pace.
Completing the podium were Elia Bartolini and Lorenzo Baldassarri, who put in a solid performance. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia partnered with Marco Bezzecchi to finish sixth, falling short of expectations.
International Stars in Action
The event, known for attracting a “who’s who” of motorcycle racing, saw a mix of MotoGP stars, international racers, and rising talents battle it out. American duo JD Beach and Sammy Halbert managed a respectable eighth-place finish, while British pair Davey Todd and Ryan Vickers ended up 17th.
One of the most anticipated pairings, MotoGP prodigy Pedro Acosta and Isle of Man TT legend Michael Dunlop, shockingly finished last, proving that even the best in the world can be humbled on Tavullia’s unique track.
Americana Race Kicks Off Festivities
The weekend of racing began with Friday night’s Americana, a thrilling three-lap dash around the track. Luca Marini, fresh off a standout season, emerged victorious with a best lap of 46.032 seconds, edging out Franco Morbidelli and Rossi himself.
Marini’s consistent dominance at the ranch continued, having won the Americana last year as well. Rossi, on course for a second-place finish, suffered a dramatic crash at the final corner, relegating him to third place.
Highlights and Standouts
The 100km of Champions is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of camaraderie, competition, and the spirit of motorcycling. This year’s lineup included MotoGP stars like Miguel Oliveira and Enea Bastianini, alongside racers like Michael Dunlop.
The 2025 edition will be remembered for its unpredictable outcome. Diogo Moreira, a rising talent, teamed up with Supermoto specialist Thomas Chareyre to deliver a flawless performance that dethroned the event’s most celebrated duo.
