Max Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, stated that the exit of several key members from Red Bull is exactly what he had warned about earlier this year.
After the season opener in Bahrain, Red Bull dealt with an internal investigation after a female team employee accused team principal Christian Horner of inappropriate behaviour towards her. Depite that, Horner continued in his role and later has been cleared of all allegations.
However, Max Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, raised concerns about Horner remaining in his position given the circumstances.
"It can't go on the way it is. It will explode", he told Daily Mail Sport.
"There is tension here while he remains in position."
Last week, it was announced that Red Bull's Head of Race Strategy, Will Courtenay, is leaving the reigning champions after 20 years to become the new Sporting Director at rival team McLaren.
This follows the recent departures of Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey, who is set to become the Managing Technical Partner and Shareholder at Aston Martin, and Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley, who will take on the role of Team Principal for Sauber/Audi's Formula 1 project, set for the transition in 2026.
"Yes, this is what I warned about", Jos Verstappen told Motorsport.com.
"The team then says: 'Oh, it doesn't matter, we have someone else [who we can put on that position].'
"But it's too many people now [leaving]. And Max gets questions about it every time and so on. So yeah, I think it's just not good, what's happening at the moment."
In many media interviews, Horner stated that the team has a sufficient number of talented individuals to manage the departures. However, Verstappen senior believes that Horner tends to downplay the situation.
Red Bull currently holds second place in the Constructors' Championship, 41 points behind the leading McLaren, who moved ahead after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix three weeks ago.
With Verstappen enduring a winless streak since the Spanish Grand Prix in June and Sergio Perez not contributing significantly this season, McLaren is now favored to clinch the 2024 title.
