IDEMITSU Honda LCR has announced that Takaaki Nakagami will depart the team at the end of this season. After seven seasons of collaboration, Nakagami is set to take on a new role as an HRC Test Rider in 2025, where he will contribute to the development of future HRC machines and participate in select MotoGP races as a wildcard.

IDEMITSU Honda LCR announced today that Takaaki Nakagami will leave the team at the end of this season. The Japanese rider is set to take on a new role as an HRC Development Rider in 2025.

After seven seasons of collaboration, Nakagami is ready to begin a new chapter in his career. The upcoming 2024 races will be his final ones with LCR, but his legacy will continue.

Starting next year, Nakagami will be an HRC Test Rider in Japan, a role in which he is sure to excel. He will also be actively involved in the bike’s development process. His racing experience and sharp insights, developed over his time in MotoGP, will be valuable to the test team. Nakagami’s feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the future of HRC machines. Additionally, he will also participate in select MotoGP races as a wildcard.

Takaaki Nakagami: "I've decided to end my career as a MotoGP rider at the end of the 2024 season. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the fans who have warmly supported me. I would also like to thank IDEMITSU and HONDA for their long-term support. From 2025, I will be involved in the development of HRC machines. It is gratifying to make use of my seven years of experience at MotoGP; I'm excited about my new chapter.
